And, on Friday I'll hear guitarist Bill Frisell & trio at the Arts Center in Carrboro. Again, an event too rare to miss even with many choices that night (see below).
Along with those are these recommendations:
--NCCU Jazz Ensembles for free Tuesday at B.N. Duke Auditorium 7p. Fine student musicians!
--The NCCU Trombone Summit--again for free--at B.N. Duke 7p, with guest trombonist Clifton Anderson. What else are you doing Thursday night?
--You can actually add something to Bill Frisell Friday evening: UNC Jazz Program Combos in 1201 Kenan Music Building at 4p. Hear them, catch a bite to eat, & hear Frisell too! I'll do that...
--Or, hear Doug Largent at the Fair Game Beverage Company in Pittsboro, or Mint Julep at G2B, or the UNC jazz faculty with saxist Walter Smith III at Sharp Nine.
--On Saturday, in addition to usual venues, you can choose the Scott Sawyer Quartet at Sharp Nine 8p; the UNC jazz bands with Walter Smith III 8p in Kenan Music Building 1201; or singer Ti Harmon backed by the best of NCCU student players at Beyu 8 & 10p (where I'll be). Or, combine one of the first two with Ti's 10p...
And, finally, the NCCU Jazz Studies Benefit Concert at the Carolina Theatre 6p, featuring Branford Marsalis & Joey Calderazzo. There are tickets left.
After that it will be time to rest through Thanksgiving (& start making more jazz choices)...
