Discovery: One of the joys in observing local jazz is watching musicians grow. I had that experience again with the Dexter Moses Quintet, featuring vocalist Lilian Park. Dexter's playing was as dexterous as usual, Lilian's singing was more confident & imaginative, & the band just put on a great show in the set I watched. They toyed with sax-vocal trading bars & used a singer-band call-&-response on the bebop "Twisted." My only regret is they didn't use all those fun "Twisted" lyrics, a minor quibble. Maybe next time....

Today: Plenty of choices. I'll test my knowledge of I-40 & Johnston County side roads at the first gig...
