Discovery: NYC's Jazz Standard has joined its peers--Village Vanguard, Jazz Gallery, Smalls, etc.--in offering live pay-per-view performances. There are actually more of such things than I can keep track of, but I'll note next week's Jazz Standard gig was we get closer to it.

Review: Last night's Jazz Gallery performers--drummer Johnathan Blake, tenor player Mark Turner, pianist Kris Davis, & basses Ben Street--played contemporary straight-ahead (unless not) jazz, playing you won't hear around here. Jazz G gives you 24 hours to play & see again; check it out.

Tonight & Saturday

9p each night: Fred Hersch's trio plays at the Village Vanguard & you have the entire next day to catch each gig (for $10) @:

Discovery: Some good news! Fine local bassist Jason Foureman's first CD--"Duo"--is out, a pairing with pianist Stephen Anderson. I listened to it last night (once the electricity came back on) & it's lovely, perfect for the quiet we need more than ever these days. You can chase it down on Amazon or via summitrecords.com. It's worth it.

Tonight

8p: There's a fine quartet led by drummer Johnathan Blake at: jazzgallery.org

Tonight I could go for less rain, thunder, & lightning & no break in electricity or internet. We've already got enough to restrict us.
