Discoveries: Please do note the change for the Charles Lloyd gig below!

1. Got a "certificate warning" from Safari about the Hot House Jazz calendar website: The warning gives a choice between going back & getting details about the certificate issue. I doubt it's a big problem. I'll keep checking venue websites to make sure I'm covering as much as possible...

2. Longtime local bassist & jazz leader John Brown's Quartet will appear online via the NC Museum of History 1.28 at 7p. I'll detail that as we get closer.

3. Saw saxist Melissa Aldana for the third time in a week last night (@ Smalls), & I'm impressed with her playing.

Discoveries: I used Thursday evening to check out some things--including Mary Halvorson's Thumbscrew Trio that plays at the Village Vanguard this weekend. She's a much quieter version of Jimi Hendrix As A Jazz Guitarist, moving "jazz" (& other) in & out of the avant garden. I.e., not Sharp Nine-ish straight-ahead music.
