This Week: NCCU is doing some things quietly this week. Tonight (Tuesday) pianist Le'Andre has her senior recital in Edwards Recital Hall (next to the NCCU Museum) 7p. I note that because she's a very good jazz pianist who's kept her light under a bushel basket. All day tomorrow (Wed.) Lenora Helms Hammonds does her Vocal Jazz Summit vocal workshop, while trombonist Robert Trowers leads the equivalent Trombone Summit Thursday afternoon & evening. Go to http://www.nccu.edu/calendar/dept.cfm?deptid=92 for details.
Friday: In addition to choosing among usual suspects, I'm torn between my need to hear the Al Strong Quintet for the first time in a while at the Beyu 7 & 9p, & Jim Ketch's Swingtet at Sharp Nine 8p. I'm contemplating catching Al at 7 & Jim after that. A bit excessive but ultimately rewarding.
Saturday: Too much going on! UNC-W drum meister Mike D'Angelo leads a group at Sharp Nine; Sidecar Social Club at Irregardless; Al Strong's Quartet at C Grace; pianist Gary Brunotte at the Empress Room; & Mahalo Jazz at the Station's afternoon jazz.
OK, have a good week...
