Thursday brings an interview with Branford Marsalis at The Shed with the head of the Rutgers Jazz Program. Branford is a determinedly opinionated person, so it should be fun. Be prepared to ask provocative questions just to see what happens...
Friday: Branford follows up his interview with the first of two nights dueting with his pianist foil Joey Calderazzo at Baldwin Auditorium. Because of my addiction to their music I'll be there--but there are many locavore choices too: excellent young Greensboro-based pianist Thomas Linger at Sharp 9; the Imbibe -regular duo of pianist Robert Griffin & trombonist Danny Grewen take their act to the Franklin Hotel 8p; meanwhile Jim Ferris is at G Grace, an Al Strong duo at Alley 26, & Stephen Anderson at Irregardless.
Saturday: More choices in addition to that Branford-Joey duo, though I'll be at the MLK Concert at Reynolds Auditorium at Duke because it's time for me to see John Brown (with DeeDee Bridgewater an added attraction. As with Friday there are more choices than those (reprise): Jo Gore & Ernest Turner are doing a house concert in Chapel Hill (check their sites for info); Brevan Hampden will percuss C Grace, & La Fiesta will make Irregardless dance.
As I've asked before, is that enough?
