Tuesday: This is as much a recommendation to myself that I need to hear the Brad Maiani Trio at the Looking Glass in Carrboro.
Wednesday: A non-recommendation: Yeaux Katz is taking a week off from their 2nd Wind/Carrboro gig this week. They'll be back next week.
Thursday: A choice of melodic music: Orchestra Gardel at 7p at the downtown Raleigh Oak City Seven series; singer Angela Bingham at Irregardless; & singer Jo Gore with pianist Ernest Turner at 6:30 at the Parizade restaurant in Durham. Nice choices.
Friday: Too many choices!! --> the Kobie Watkins Grouptet at Sharp Nine at 8p; the Zen Poets at the Shed 8p; Washington DC-based soulish-jazzish pianist Mark Meadows at 8 & 10p; singer/pianist Ariel Pocock at the Empress Room; trumpeter Lynn Grissett at C Grace at 9p; & an Al Strong duo at Alley 26 at 9p.
Saturday: Jo Gore shifts to Irregardless for more standard singing at 9p; free jazz player Paul Swest & his group at the Shed at 8; & guitarist Scott Sawyer leading a trio at the Station in Carrboro at 2p (where I'll be, arriving early to arrive an expected crowd like last week).
Monday Locavore/Extravore Jazz: Having seen extravore singer Tierney Sutton give the best performance from her I've seen last year at Sharp Nine, I can't recommend too highly her joining her guitarist, Serge Merlaud, with the locavore (& extravore) singer Kate McGarry & guitarist Keith Ganz. As of yesterday there were only 10 tickets left. Not to be missed...
