Tuesday: I'll probably go to the ECU jazz faculty performance at Sharp Nine 7p. Brian Miller fans can also catch him at the Durham Hotel 3rd Tuesday jazz gig 6p.
Wednesday: If I didn't have a meeting to go to, I'd check to see if the Bar Virgile actually has Ariel Pocock & James Suter there (it depends...). Late nighters can hit Duke's Jazz At The Mary Lou jam session 9:30p.
Thursday: I will definitely be at The Shed at 8p for the Andrew Berinson trio. In my Guide To Local Jazz class he promised some of his own compositions. If they're as good as the one he played in the class, this could be a special night.
Friday: No matter what else is going on, I have to hear the duo of pianist Ernest Turner & saxist Stephen Riley at Sharp Nine 8p. They have both incredible skills & incredible rapport. As good as Andrew Berinson may be Thursday night, these two will be better.
Saturday: I'll start at the Station 2p in Carrboro, hearing for the first time (guitarist) Brad Maiani play the soprano sax. The latter is a long story; ask Brad for details....With a nap in between I'll then catch another due: singer Nnenna Freelon & guitarist Scott Sawyer, the first time they've returned to a duo format in 20 years or so. Another unique locavore jazz experience. This gig may persuade Nnenna to do more such performing hereabouts.
This week should take care of my needs. Whatever you choose, enjoy!
