The UNC Jazz Festival: For details go to the UNC Jazz Program link on the Home page; you'll find event Wednesday-Saturday. Since I've been told by a student musician there are unannounced extravore musicians around (including vibraphonist Jason Marsalis), who know who might show up at some of the events. Me, I'm hoping that the Marcus Roberts Band performance Friday will spawn a jam session someplace.
Kate McGarry's Three Is Enough trio at Sharp Nine Valentine's evening: In addition to guitarist Keith Ganz Kate's bringing in extravore pianist Gary Versace, who has played on a number of her CDs in addition to playing with many other jazz artists. Should be a special night.
Ernest Turner at the Beyu that same evening: If you'd rather hear solo piano to celebrate that holiday, he's there 6-9p.
The pattern reconfigures Friday & Saturday:
Friday: If you're not into the Marcus Roberts's Modern Jazz Generation band--including Greenville's Stephen Riley--Sharp Nine, the Franklin Hotel, C Grace, & Irregardless provide plenty of alternatives.
