Tuesday: According to the Sharp Nine website, only 15 tickets left for the NCJRO there Tuesday night at 8p. If you need big band yayas, it's the place to be.
I'm also trying to confirm that the trio Jazzbeau is playing at 2nd Wind in Carrboro 8-9p. Trumpeter Greg Cagle of the Second Line Stompers told me he plays in the group on what seems like serendipitous Tuesdays there, alleging (accurately I'm sure) that head Jazzbeau Danny Gotham is as good with jazz as anything he plays). Danny's website indicates the same thing, so I'll email him to confirm & note it here later.
Friday: Choices. Oy...Larry Q Draughn's group does Nina Simone at Sharp Nine at 8p; Lynn Grissett's Quartet at C Grace at 9p; Al Strong Trio at Alley 26 at 9p. I'm also tempted to see funky singer Emily Musolino at the Hickory Tavern in Carrboro at 9p if for no other reason than pianist Eric Hirsh is backing her.
Saturday: Saxophonist Chad Eby's quintet is at Sharp Nine at 8p; hmm, I've yet to hear Chad. Or, the Latin sounds of Marimjazzia is at Irregardless at 9p. Or, the Al Strong Trio highlights an Art of Cool Festival pre-celebration at Strowd's in downtown Chapel Hill at 8. I shall split myself in half or thirds...
