Friday: I'll catch extravore bassist Michael Feinberg from NYC--featuring fine tenor player Noah Preminger--at Sharp Nine 8p; but I'm tempted to see Sidecar Social Club at the Beyu 8 & 10.
Saturday: Drummer Michael Ode leads a quartet including pianist Ernest Turner 8 & 10. If anything else pops up I'll blog again this week...
Things To Keep An Eye Out For, Locavore & Extravore:
>>Branford Marsalis in conversation at the Shed Thursday 1/12--before he & Joey Calderazzo duet at Duke 1/13-14.
>>The MLK concert at Duke (Reynolds Auditorium) 1/14--including DeeDee Bridgewater.
>>Singer Jo Gore & pianist Ernest Turner do a house concert. Check the contact phone number on her website for more info.
>>Guitarist Pat Metheny at the Carolina Theatre Thursday 1/26. Warning: the cheapest tix are $47 (!).
>>Singer Candice Hoyes & pianist Chris Pattishall have a quintet doing rare Ellington tunes at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) in Raleigh. Info via the NC Opera Company website. Having heard Chris play at Sharp Nine last year & having watched Hoyes on YouTube, this looks very good.
>>The Station in Carrboro--having done its Saturday afternoon thing--has booked Jo Gore & Ernest Turner Friday 1/20 8p & (starting 2/3) the Onyx Club Boys to play Djangoesque swing every Thursday that month 9p.
>>Excellent guitarist John Scofield is at the Carrboro Arts Center Wednesday 2/8. I've got a ticket.
Enough?
