Having heard Anthony Braxton unique playing last Friday at Duke, I'm still curious about what more improvisation sounds like. I'm not sure whether I like it, but that's not the point right now...
I'll have more recommendations/observations when certain venues & performers update their March calendars, but I can say that (i) it's worth giving singer Noah Powell at listen at the Beyu Friday night, local vocalists being something of a rare species; & (ii) I'm definitely going to hear the Keith Ganz Quartet at Sharp Nine Saturday night (joined by trumpeter Al Strong).
And, for Extravore Jazz, I can't recommend violinist Regina Carter at NCSU Center Stage 3/20-21. That link is on the LJ first page. Do not pass Go...
