1. For sheer depth of live jazz archives, no one beats Smalls Live @: smallslive.com
Comments: I watched a delightful 1.5 hours of my favorite pianist, Sullivan Fortner, & his trio at Smalls Live yesterday afternoon. That performance will be available in a few weeks, but there are 88 gigs in the Smalls archive you can access while waiting. Go to smalls live.com, Sign In, become a Member, & then check either the Calendar for this month's schedule of live-without-audience gigs or Archive for myriads of old gigs. My searches found those 88 Fortner gigs & a bunch by unique pianist, Sean Mason (Charlotte-born, UNCG/Juilliard-trained, a sound like no other). I also tried to contribute money but found the links difficult.
2. If you want to hear truly unique guitar-paying, watch Lionel Loueke @: livefromourlivingrooms.com
Comments: Watched the above yesterday. When you get to that site, click Tickets, which gets you to. both schedule & payment. You need to become a Member to access these live gigs & donate $3 or more to the cause. My strategy: pay $3 & then donate more if the performance deserves it. Loueke deserved it.
Given my weakness for both Sullivan Fortner & Seam Mason, I'll use part of the day exploring their old gigs. It's nice to have more things to listen to.
