Sunday: Drummer Michael Ode plays at Durham's West End Wine Bar at 3p; at 7:30p you can choose between--or, better, go to both--Doug Largent helping the Time Smith Band celebrating their leader's birthday, & guitarist Brad Miani's trio at the Chapel Hill West End Wine Bar.
Monday: The downtown Carrboro 4th of July celebration includes the La Fiesta Band, including Gregg Gelb & Stephen Anderson. With or without sunscreen, it'll be worth getting some sun with Latin rhythms.
Middle Week: The Yeaux Katz are at 2nd Wind in Carrboro at 8, their music as fun as their name, featuring trombonist Danny Grewen, who has adopted this area as his home.
Friday: Conga/drum player Brevan Hampden is using his summer break from graduate school well, leading his longtime Latin group Primera Jazz at Sharp Nine 8p (including Stephen Anderson on his UNC summer break). Or, for those in or going to Raleigh, choose between the Doug Largent Trio at Irregardless 8p & Gregg Gelb's band at C Grace at 9p. Good choices.
Saturday: When it rains it pours, climate change or not: DC-based pantheistic saxophonist Brad Line leads his band at The Shed 8p; trumpeter Lynn Grisset leads his quartet at Sharp Nine 8p; jazz/blues guitarist Calvin Edwards at the Beyu 8 & 10p; Irregardless' two shows are alto player John Palowich at 6:30 & La Fiesta at 9; & Dominican legendary pianist Guillo Carias at C Grace at 9p. Need an umbrella while you choose?
