Then, there is the weekend:
Friday: Grady's Hat may be an unfamiliar band, but has NCCU bass professor Damon Brown on bass & funky singer Adrian Duke (think Tom Waits imitating Ray Charles). I'm an Adrian Duke fan so I'll be at Sharp Nine at 8p, but I could easily slide over to Alley 26 after to catch Al Strong plus whoever's playing with him, always a good mystery. For extravore jazz fans, fine soulish-jazzish singer Somi appears at the Beyu Friday & Saturday night 8 & 10p.
Saturday: Raleigh jazz fans can choose between saxist Chad Eby at Irregardless or Al Strong at C Grace, both at 9. I'll get my satisfaction earlier that day when The Station in Carrboro debuts its Saturday afternoon jazz series with a batch of long-time jazz worthies. If this series works, there'll be more, Carrboro giving Durham some competition for a change.
