Discovery: The last two performances at Sharp Nine have been fabulous, each in its own way. Last Sunday Phil Allen's local all-star octet played as lovely jazz as you'll ever hear; Thursday night the unclassifiable Arco Belo sextet played in niches among jazz, classical, klezmer, tango, you name it To catch them on video:

Discovery: A tough week for me, recovering from what was a routine back surgery but made housebound by an unexpected side effect. If not for the latter I would get to live music this weekend & this week. Maybe I should organize a house concert?
