Thursday: While I'm listening to Blitz The Ambassador's Ghanaian-American rap at Motorco, I could've wandered around Durham to catch pianist Stephen Anderson at the Beyu at 7 & then drift over to the Shed at 8 or so to hear the Young Philly Trio, which is definitely a young trio but from this area.
Friday: Among too many choices, I'm going to Juan Alamo's Marimjazzia at Sharp Nine at 8 because I love his marimba playing. But, you could also catch: the Duke student Jazz Ensemble at 8 at Baldwin Auditorium; or hear the Austin (TX) Piazzola Quartet at The Shed at 8; or the Jim Ferris Trio at the Beyu at 8 & 10; or the Gregg Gelb Quartet at C Grace at 9; or the Art of Cool "Shakedown Mardi Gras" at the Lincoln Theater. Got enough to think about?!
Saturday: Only four choices & haven't made mine yet: singer Jua at Sharp Nine at 8; Al Strong at C Grace at 9; Eric Meyer & Billie Feather starting Durham's West End Wine Bar Saturday night jazz at 9; & singer Noah Powell at Irregardless.
Sunday: We're not finished! Though we'll hear Kate McGarry & her band celebrate Valentine's Day at Sharp Nine at 7, I could still squeeze in part of the UNC/Duke/NCCU jazz bands playing at UNC's Kenan Music Building at 4p. For those not into either, two choices: Doug Largent's trio re-opens at Chapel Hill's West End Wine Bar at 7, while pianist-singer Ariel Pocock & bassist James Suter play at C Grace at 9p. Yes, I could add the latter to Sharp Nine, but I'm too tired just writing up all these choices!
Still at warmbed of jazz, but heating up...
