1. Jazz warms the body through the soul. So, if you need warmth this week, go to a local jazz venue.
2. I can survive two weeks without live jazz, but only if I'm distracted by grandchildren or long drives to see them.
3. If you want to watch/hear live extravore jazz, go to www.smallslive.com: This NYC club has pioneered online broadcasts of all nightly gigs.
This Week:
Wednesday: Yeaux Katz at 2nd Wind 7p, but I'll see what Ernest Turner is like at Beer Study on University Drive in Durham.
Thursday: Sharp Nine screens the trumpeter Lee Morgan documentary "I Called Him Morgan" followed by a panel discussion 7p. If that isn't your cup of tea, Ernest Turner leads the Imbibe weekly jam session 8p.
Friday: Though I'll see how Eric Hirsh's quartet sounds--before its first recording--at Sharp Nine 8p; though there's a rare Doug Largent Trio gig at Irregardless 6:30p & a not so rare Al Strong Quartet gig at C Grace 9p.
Saturday: My Gig-of-the-Week is Keenan McKenzie's CD release party at Sharp Nine 8p, a septet plus Mint Julep vocalist Laura Windley.
Sunday: If you want to waltz to some jazzy musicians (remember, it'll warm you up), Carrboro's Century Center hosts "Waltz Sunday" 3:30p.
