This week:
Wednesday/Tonight: For those who take long naps, the first fall Jazz At the Mary Lou at Duke is 9:30....Pianist Ariel Pocock & bassist James Suter at Bar Virgile (in the first block of South Mangum in Durham), probably at 7p....Yeaux Katz at 2nd Wind in Carrboro ....
Thursday: A number of small gig choices: guitarist Scott Sawyer at the Vinos Finos tapas/wine bar in Raleigh...pianist Elmer Gibson at Brasa Steakhouse 6:30p....guitarist Baron Tymas jazzing the Beyu 7p....& Al Strong at C Grace 9p....
Friday: Al Strong helps celebrate Art of Cool's fifth birthday at Northgate Mall 6p....La Fiesta Latin band at the Beyu 8 & 10p....For Scott Sawyer fans, he joins pianist Gary Brunotte at Brasa 6:30 or 7p....& pianist Ernest Turner & saxist Stephen Riley at Alley 26 at 9p-----I'll again risk Music Fatigue Syndrome & wander from La Fiesta's first set to Alley 26, the latter worth trying to hear despite all those young things drinking expensive cocktails which only augment the level of conversation.
Saturday: In addition to many other gigs, singer Lois Deloatch takes over the Beyu 8 & 10p. She doesnt' perform that often & will be joined by newly local pianist Jonathan Markow for a night of "new standard". She will be joined by as yet unnamed special guests. Note: the 8p show is sold out, but she's worth staying up late for!
Lots & lots of choices this week. Go for it!
