Last night is a good example. Faced with three choices (with many other gigs going on), I first went to hear guitarist Keith Ganz & saxophonist Dave Finucane at Sharp Nine/Durham Jazz Workshop (backed by bassist Paul Creel & drummer Jon Curry), staying for the first set & then mistakenly--they were playing beautifully--going to the Beyu to hear the La Fiesta Latin quintet. A sweet mistake, as there's no way you can sit still when they play!
So, boys & girls, how do we choose what to hear & to save for another time?
For example, this week. During the week we can hear Doug Largent here, there, & everywhere, or the 2nd Line Stompers, Ernest Turner, & the Al Strong Quartet in regular C Grace gigs. Or, on Friday you could also choose among the danceable Orquesta Gardel at Kings in Raleigh, pianist Stephen Anderson at Irregardless in Raleigh (just added to the LJ venue list), singer Connie McKoy at Beyu, or pianist Ryan Hanseler doing trad jazz at C Grace.
Or, on Saturday you could choose among singer Jua at Irregardless, Stephen A w/ Doug Largent on bass (his original instrument) at Brasa Steakhouse, or the intriguing violinist Chelsey Green at the Beyu (check out her video on the Beyu website!). Or, you can go to one of the other venues on Locavore Jazz.
