First, I'd say check out the usual suspect websites; it's a week for a number of gigs by LJ favorites. Plus, the Brazilian jazzish band Onda & its players' other groups are busy this week.
Among all that, having heard Ernest Turner play with his trio last night at Sharp Nine, if I were free to hear everything I wanted, I'd see him as part of the Jazz Vespers at White Rock Church in Durham at 4p this afternoon & solo at C Grace in Raleigh at 9 Wednesday 1/14. Beyond that I plan to double up Friday night: the Afro jazz fusion group Muningu (from Congo Brazzaville) at 7:30 at the Shed, followed by the Al Strong Quartet at Cuban Revolution.
