Thursday: Baron Tymas does his monthly gig at the Beyu at 7; pianist Elmer Gibson is at the Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse at 6:30; & Gregg Gelb brings his fine jazz orchestra to Southern Village for the setting of the sun.
Friday: I'm going to hear the 10th anniversary concert of the John Brown Quintet at Baldwin Auditorium at Duke because I haven't heard John play since the spring. And, I may drift to Alley 26 after, to hear the Al Strong duo, the neat thing being you never know who's playing with Al. But, there are plenty of other choices (aka "too many"): pianist Stephen Anderson at C Grace at 9; the swing danceable Mint Julep at the G2B Gastropub in SW Durham; &--where I would've gone if not for John Brown--the NC Jazz Rep Orchestra doing Billy Strayhorn at UNC's Hill Hall at 8.
Saturday: Though I need to hear Eric Hirsh's jazz quartet at Beyu at 8, singer Noah Powell is at Irregardless in Raleigh & Gregg Gelb's quartet at C Grace at 9. Choices, choices.
For those like me with "NCJRO Guilt", they reappear at Sharp Nine Tuesday 9/23 at 8pm, this time celebrating John Coltrane's birthday.
And, a new group to me--Onda--plays Brazilian jazz at Milltown in Carrboro Sunday night 9/21. This all means I should sleep later most mornings to stay awake...
