OK, I've got enough info for this month to make weekly recommendations. Kudos to C Grace for getting their mostly complete schedule up yesterday. Al Strong, you'll have to catch up with me!
First & foremost, remember to give to the Art of Cool 2015 Festival Kickstarter campaign. No money, no festival...
The most interesting things this week involve the Duke Performances/Bull Durham Blues Fest performance by the Campbell Brothers at Hayti at 8p Friday night. Not only can you hear them play Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" & their mix of fine music, but Duke's scheduled two pre-concert events: two of the Brothers discussing (& playing?) their music Wednesday at Pinhook in Durham at 6p & Branford Marsalis discussing (& playing?) the Coltrane side Thursday at the Carolina Theatre at 7p.
And, you can combine those with dinner & more music in Durham if you'd like. Drummer Kobie Watkins has his Jazz Jam at the Beyu Wednesday & the Michael Jones trio play is there Thursday night. More too many choices!
And, if the Campbell Brothers are not your thing, on Thursday the Al Strong Quartet is at C Grace & Ryan Hanseler at Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse (thanks to the WNCU calendar for the latter listing); on Friday vocalist-worth-hearing Noah Powell is the Beyu & 20s-30s-40s jazz band Hot Sardines at the NCSU Center Stage; & on Saturday, in addition to Kermit Ruffins at the Bull Durham Blues Fest (@ DAP), trumpeter Lynn Grissett is at Sharp Nine, the trad jazz Second Line Stompers at C Grace, & Orquesta Gardel at a 6p fund-raiser at Dorton Arena (no not your typical "jazz venue" but still ok).
