Also, the UNC jazz faculty will play on the front porch of Love House on West Franklin Street in Chapel Hill at 5:30 Thursday afternoon. No, it's not a brothel; it's the Center for the Study of the American South, & it's right next to the UNC President's house.
Now when it comes to Friday night, I will tape the PBS showing featuring Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, who have duet CD out. Beyond the fact that I was brought up being taught TB was better than Sinatra, I am amazed at how he's (i) preserved his voice & (ii) been open to singing with many young pop singers.
Though I feel badly about not going to see Arturo O'Farrill with the Duke student jazz orchestra Friday night, I must see pianist Stephen Anderson at Sharp Nine since I haven't heard him in a while. I'll share a review of that gig next week.
If I have the energy after Sharp Nine, I may catch the At Strong Quartet at Cuban Revolution. The ASQ usually plays down at C Grace in Raleigh, so I feel I should take advantage of the shorter drive back home. Plus, WNCU's doing its monthly live show from CR then.
Saturday's a little simpler. I will finally catch up with Orquesta Gardel's Latin music (with Eric H on keyboard) at the Pittsboro Fall Street Fair. They play at 11am or so. Then I want to see singer Jua at Irregardless at 9 that night. Yes, there are other good choices at the main local jazz venues.
Looking ahead, I have my eye on singer Kate McGarry & husband guitarist Keith Ganz. They are special together.
