August has been rightly called the Dog Days (sorry doggies!) but this one doesn't feel like that. There are many performances worth taking in over the next ten days:
It's time for me to hear Al Strong & the Zoocru at Cuban Revolution Friday night. Maybe it's time for you too!
But first go to the Art of Cool "Pop-Up" at Cocoa & Cinnamon 7-9 before heading to CR. You'll get to hear good music, meet interesting people, &--if you haven't already--contribute to the Art of Cool Fest Kickstarter campaign. All in a good cause--jazz & jazz-influenced music.
I also have my eye on mellow guitarist Bernie Petteway at the Beyu Saturday night, thought I'm curious about the Indy Week listing for Brian Horton at the just-barely-in Durham Straw Valley Café Saturday night. It's not on either Brian's or the Straw Valley websites. If he's there, it's under the starts on what should be a comfortable night outdoors.
Of course you can check Doug Largent's website to see which part of Everywhere he's playing these days. I'm still partial to under the stars at the Looking Glass Café in Carrboro on Tuesday nights. Can't get too much outdoor music on comfy nights.
Check out C Grace's Wed-Fri lineup next week: Ryan Hanseler solo, the Al Strong Quartet, & the Gregg Gelb Quartet. Can't miss there.
Having done an Art of Cool listening session on the Rebirth Brass Band & Dumpstaphunk last night, & always needing to dance in my seat where there are no other choices, I'm obligated to their 8/22 UNC performance. Watch out for the Bulltown Strutters living up to their marching & musical name before the concert!
