They played music harmonically dissonant, evil-metered big band compositions that were very refreshing. I've come to like our local big bands & their old & newer arrangements, but this was different in a good way. I've applied the word "edgy" to other some extravore jazz I've heard here; edgy is what I heard last night & need to hear more of along with the more likely straight-ahead jazz already here.
Ergo, I'd love to hear Brad Linde's "avant-garde trad jazz" group (one of many edgy units he plays in), & he may bring his all soprano sax quartet here in a few months. Even it's that's not your thing, it's worth hearing as a new taste, like that wine from a little known patch of southern France that hardly anybody is familiar with...
