So I'm declaring it's time to explore! It's a quieter time, less distraction from university performances or festivals with extravore jazz, time to fossick around local venues. For example, this week you could:
--Chase down Gregg Gelb Tuesday night at Imurj* in Raleigh with his trio 9p OR Friday night with his quartet at C Grace (with Stephen Anderson) 9p OR Saturday night at Irregardless with his vocalist/wife Kathy 9p. OR
--Catch Chad Eby repeating his Marsalis music performance at the Crown Theater in Greensboro. It's worth the trip!
--Figure out why Tea Cup Gin is doing a concert at the Paul Green Theater in Chapel Hill 6:30p. The internet will not tell me details other than place/time.
--See who's playing at Alley 26 Friday 9p if it isn't Al Strong. It's a mystery worth solving.
--Reward Vinos Finos in Raleigh for having updated their Thursday night music details.
--Dance with the Mint Julep Jazz Band at Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary Wednesday evening.
--See drummer Atticus Reynolds at the Station Saturday 2p. He says there'll be a surprise tenor saxist too. I'll be there.
--Go to any other venue you haven't been to yet...
*More News: Three places are adding jazz to their lineups. It appears that Sullivan's Steakhouse in Raleigh will have regular Friday night jazz starting next month. And the new (to me) Mayton Inn in Cary will start an irregular set of Friday 6p jazz gigs, starting this Friday with Tea Cup Gin. And, the Imurj community performance space in Raleigh starts some Tuesday night jazz this week.
