This week? I may amble over to the West End Wine Bar tonight briefly for some white wine & the Brad Maiani Trio's guitar-led fine jazz. That'll balance whatever gore is on "Game of Thrones" tonight.
Tuesday night it's the NCJRO at Sharp Nine for reasons to be explained below, though I do need to see what Jazzbeau is like at Second Wind that night in Carrboro...
Reason to be explained: I'm researching a class on local jazz history for my "Guide To Local Jazz" course & need to arrange discussions with trumpeter Jim Ketch & saxist Gregg Gelb, who can tell me about jazz here 30-40 years ago. The research process may be more fun than the class since it'll involve a lot of listening to jazz stories...
The Beyu is opening Thursday, hopefully. I'm still waiting for an official announcement of that plus any special grand opening events...
On Friday, if I'm ambitious I'll first make contact with another GTLJ source, pianist Elmer Gibson, at Irregardless, then catch most of singer Ariel Pocock, bassist James Suter, & pianist Ernest Turner, & then catch Al Strong's second set at the Beyu. If I do, I'll rest Saturday.
Have a good week!
