Thursday the Station has a Thursday night jazz gig with singer Jo Gore 7:30p, while Al Strong's at C Grace 9p.
Friday features Kobie Watkins's Grouptet at Sharp Nine, Gregg Gelb's quartet at C Grace, Tea Cup Gin at the Franklin Hotel, & pianist Elmer Gibson at Irregardless.
Saturday has percussionist Brevan Hampden at C Grace &--iin separate sets--saxist John Palowich & singer Jo Gore at Irregardless. Meanwhile, at the Beyu, singer Becca Stevens--whom Kate McGarry described to me as "a folk singer, not a jazz singer"--has taken a new tack on her latest CD (click here for a video link). To be honest, I don't know what this adds up to for this performance but I'll be there.
And, for something extraterritorial for LJ, the Charlotte Jazz Festival (click for link) happens this week, with a number of local players performing down there.
Who says jazz is dying?
