If there's any sign we're back to a New Normal, this is it! Discovery: Looks like a normal week from the pre-covid past: the usual weekly gigs building towards singular weekend events. My spine doc will give me permission to drive tomorrow, so all I'll need is the energy to match my yearning to hear the music live...
This Week: The usual suspects from the Home page--Imbibe, Emmet Cohen online, the Cave, Kingfisher, Catalan Tapas, Eddy Pub, Speakeasy, CG, Bond Brothers Eastside, Sharp Nine, Pimiento Tea House--all have good stuff this week. So here are my choices among all that... Sunday: 6p: Hayti's monthly jazz tribute covers the fabulous Betty Carter w/ vocalist Dupresha Townsend at: Monday: Since there'll be chances to catch Grewen &/or Griffin at Speakeasy & Emmet C on YouTube... 9p: Halo Trio leads the Monday jazz jam in Chapel Hill at: Tuesday: Though C Grace & Catalan are fine tonight, I need a rest day. Wednesday: I haven't seen Yeaux Katz in too long... 7p: Yeaux Katz is still the best jazz bar band in Carrboro at: Friday-Saturday: Ryan Hanseler fans get two shots at him, first at C Grace, next at Bond Bros. Since I've seen him recently I opt Friday for... 8p: Trumpeter Jim Ketch leads his youngblood Swingtet in Durham's Sharp Nine at: Saturday: As good a pianist Lovell Bradford will be at Sharp Nine, I haven't heard enough Gracie Jay yet... 8:30p: Vocalist Gracie Jay in Raleigh at: Sunday: Vocalist Katherine Whalen's JazzSquad in residence in Carrboro at: See you at one of these gigs... |
